Show 3 picture examples: rabbit, rainbow, robot, rose. Ask: “Do you hear /r/ at the start?”
Do This (2 minutes): Reach for R. Show picture cards or say simple words aloud and invite students to reach their hands out if the word starts with /r/. Try: rabbit (reach), rainbow (reach), sun (quiet), robot (reach), dog (quiet), rose (reach).
Teacher Tip: Keep it short and playful.

Say: “Today we are going to write letter R the right way.”
Uppercase R: “Start at the top, line down, around the top, then slant down.”
Lowercase r: “Line down, then a little curve.”
Do This (2 minutes): Rainbow Line for R. Students air-write a big uppercase R, then trace R on the table with their finger while saying: “Down, around, slant.” Then make one line down and a little curve for lowercase r.

Say: “Today we are listening for the sound /r/ at the beginning of words.”
Say: “When you hear /r/, pretend to roar.”
Try a few examples: rabbit (yes), rainbow (yes), robot (yes), sun (no), dog (no), rock (yes).
Do This (2 minutes): Roar for R. Show picture cards and ask: “What is this? Say it slowly. Do you hear /r/ at the beginning?” Students give a gentle pretend roar if the word starts with R.
