Welcome to Week 2. This is your low-prep, print-and-go Letter A plan. Each day includes a quick 5-minute mini lesson, one simple activity, and one printable that supports it.
Best for: kindergarten centers, homeschool, preschool review, and busy parents who want a simple plan without a lot of prep.

- Homeschoolers: Do 1 day per day, or combine Days 1–2 and Days 3–4 for a 3-day week.

Week at a Glance
Letter: A | Sound focus: short a /ă/ (apple) | Goal: recognize A/a, form the letter, hear /ă/ at the start of words.
- Day 1: Meet the letter (name + sound)

Print This Weekly Packet (Low Prep)
If you only print a few pages, these are the best ones for Week 2:

Daily Mini Lessons + Printables
Day 1: Meet Letter A
Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)
- Point to A and a. Say: “This is letter A. It can look like A or a.”
- Say: “A says /ă/ like apple.” (Have kids repeat 2–3 times.)
- Show 3 picture examples: apple, ant, alligator, anchor. Ask: “Do you hear /ă/ at the start?”
Do This (2 minutes): Letter hunt. Ask kids to find A in the room, in a book, or on a paper.
Teacher Tip: Keep it short and playful.

Day 2: Write Letter A
Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)
- Say: “We start our pencil at the top.”
- Uppercase A: “Down, down, and across.”
- Lowercase a: “Around, then down.”
Do This (2 minutes): Sky-write A with your finger. Then write A on the table with an imaginary crayon.

Optional: If kids need extra fine motor practice, add the apple drawing pencil control page.


Day 3: Hear the /ă/ Sound
Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)
- Say: “Listen for /ă/ at the beginning.”
- Call out words. Kids give thumbs up if it starts with /ă/: apple (yes), ant (yes), sun (no), alligator (yes), cat (no).
Do This (2 minutes): Picture sort. Ask kids to name the picture and decide if it starts with /ă/.

Day 4: Centers + Review
By today, students have:
- Met letter A
- Practiced writing A
- Heard the /ă/ sound
Today is about strengthening and applying those skills independently.
Mini Lesson (2–3 minutes)
Say:
“This week we learned that A says /ă/ like apple.
Today we are going to practice everything we know about A.”
“Remember, A can look different in different books. Lowercase a especially can look different, but it is still the same letter.”
“Show me the sound with your mouth.”
“Use your finger to write a capitol letter A in the air.”
“Use your finger to write a lower case letter a in the air.”
“Name something that starts with Letter A.”
Pick 2 centers and rotate. This keeps the day simple and predictable.
Center Menu (choose 2)
- Center 1: Circle All the A’s
- Center 2: Dot Marker A
- Center 3: Themed Tracing Page (unicorn, dino, dog, cat, mermaid)
- Center 4: Write, Trace and Color
- Center 5: Sensory or craft extension
Center 1 Printable: Circle All the A’s
Why this matters: Letter A looks different in different fonts, especially lowercase a. This activity builds flexible letter recognition for real reading.

Mini Check (2–3 minutes)
- Point to A: “What letter?”
- “What sound?”
- Point to a: “What letter?”
- “Can you write A?”
Celebrate: print and read the mini book and do a simple craft.
Printable: Letter A Mini Book & Letter A Review Worksheets
A simple 8-page foldable mini book: “My Letter A Picture Book” with pictures for A is for Apple, Ant, Airplane, Acorn, Anchor, Alligator & Artist. Let the kids color and fold it, and point out where they see the “A” on each page.
