Free Kindergarten Literacy Curriculum Week 3 - All Things Letter B, including guided lessons, free printable worksheets, sensory bins, and craft and activity ideas

Welcome to Week 3. This is your low-prep, print-and-go Letter B plan. Each day includes a quick 5-minute mini lesson, one simple activity, and free printables that support it.

Best for: kindergarten centers, homeschool, preschool review, and busy parents who want a simple plan without a lot of prep.

Daily Mini Lessons + Printables

Day 1: Meet Letter B

Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)

  • Point to B and b. Say: “This is letter B. It can look like B or b, but it is the same letter.”
  • Say: “B says /b/ like banana.” (Have kids repeat 2–3 times.)
  • Show 3 picture examples: ball, bear, banana, butterfly. Ask: “Do you hear /b/ at the start?”

Do This (2 minutes): Mystery Bag. Place a few small objects or pictures in a bag like a ball, block, bead, or book. Pull one out, name it, and ask: “Does it start with /b/?”

Teacher Tip: Keep it short and playful.

Day 2: Write Letter B

Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)

  • Say: “Today we are going to write letter B the right way.”
  • Uppercase B: “Start at the top, line down, bump, bump.”
  • Lowercase b: “Start at the top, line down, then around.”

Do This (2 minutes): Build the letter. Air-write B with your finger, then trace B on the table or your leg while saying: “Line down, bump, bump.”

Optional: If kids need extra fine motor practice, add a simple trace-and-color B page.

Day 3: Hear the /b/ Sound

Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)

  • Say: “Today we are listening for the sound /b/ at the beginning of words.”
  • Say: “When you hear /b/ at the start, buzz like a bee: b-b-b.”
  • Try a few examples: ball (yes), bear (yes), butterfly (yes), sun (no), cat (no), banana (yes).

Do This (2 minutes): Picture check. Show picture cards and ask: “What is this? Say it slowly. Do you hear /b/ at the beginning?” Students can buzz if it starts with B and stay quiet if it does not.

Day 4: Centers + Review

By today, students have:

  • Met letter B
  • Practiced writing B
  • Heard the /b/ sound

Today is about strengthening and applying those skills independently.

Mini Lesson (2–3 minutes)

Say:

“This week we learned about the letter B.”
“Tell me the letter name. Tell me the sound.”
“Show me uppercase B in the air. Show me lowercase b in the air.”
“If it starts with B, buzz like a bee: b-b-b.”

Try a few examples: ball (buzz), bear (buzz), sun (quiet), banana (buzz).

Pick 2 centers and rotate.

  • Center 1: Circle All the B’s
  • Center 2: Dot Marker B
  • Center 3: Themed Tracing Page
  • Center 4: Write, Trace and Color
  • Center 5: Sensory or craft extension

Center 1 Printable: Circle All the B’s
Why this matters: Letter B can look slightly different in different books and fonts. This activity helps build flexible letter recognition for real reading.
