Welcome to Week 12. This is your low-prep, print-and-go Letter K plan. Each day includes a quick 5-minute mini lesson, one simple activity, and free printables that support it.
Best for: kindergarten centers, homeschool, preschool review, and busy parents who want a simple plan without a lot of prep.

Week at a Glance
Letter: K | Sound focus: /k/ (kite) | Goal: recognize K/k, form the letter, and hear /k/ at the start of words.

Daily Mini Lessons + Printables
Day 1: Meet Letter K
Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)
- Point to K and k. Say: “This is letter K. It can look like K or k, but it is the same letter.”
- Say: “K says /k/ like kite.” (Have kids repeat 2–3 times.)
- Show 3 picture examples: kite, key, kangaroo, kitten. Ask: “Do you hear /k/ at the start?”
Do This (2 minutes): Kick for K. Show picture cards or say simple words aloud and invite students to do a gentle pretend kick if the word starts with /k/. Try: kite (kick), key (kick), sun (quiet), kitten (kick), dog (quiet), kangaroo (kick).
Teacher Tip: Keep it short and playful.

Day 2: Write Letter K
Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)
- Say: “Today we are going to write letter K the right way.”
- Uppercase K: “Start at the top, line down, then one slant out and one slant in.”
- Lowercase k: “Start at the top, line down, then one little slant out and one little slant in.”
Do This (2 minutes): Kick Out the K. Students air-write a big uppercase K, then trace K on the table with their finger while saying: “Down, slant out, slant in.” Then make one line down and two smaller slants for lowercase k.

Optional: If kids need extra fine motor practice, add a simple trace-and-color K page.


Day 3: Hear the /k/ Sound
Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)
- Say: “Today we are listening for the sound /k/ at the beginning of words.”
- Say: “When you hear /k/, tap your knee.”
- Try a few examples: kite (yes), key (yes), kitten (yes), sun (no), dog (no), kangaroo (yes).
Do This (2 minutes): Knee Tap for K. Show picture cards and ask: “What is this? Say it slowly. Do you hear /k/ at the beginning?” Students tap their knee if the word starts with K.

Day 4: Centers + Review
By today, students have:
- Met letter K
- Practiced writing K
- Heard the /k/ sound
Today is about strengthening and applying those skills independently.
Mini Lesson (2–3 minutes)
Say:
“This week we learned about the letter K.”
“Tell me the letter name. Tell me the sound.”
“Show me uppercase K in the air. Show me lowercase k in the air.”
“Can you show me the tall line?”
“Can you show me the slanted lines?”
“Can you tell me one K word?”
Pick 2 centers and rotate.
Center Menu (choose 2)
- Center 1: Circle All the K’s
- Center 2: Dot Marker K
- Center 3: Themed Tracing Page
- Center 4: Write, Trace and Color
- Center 5: Sensory or craft extension
Center 1 Printable: Circle All the K’s
Why this matters: Letter K can look slightly different in different books and fonts. This activity helps build flexible letter recognition for future reading.

Day 5: Quick Check + Celebrate
Mini Check (2–3 minutes)
- Point to K: “What letter?”
- “What sound?”
- Point to k: “What letter?”
- “Can you write K?”
Celebrate: print and read the mini book, then do a simple craft or draw-and-tell.

A simple foldable mini book with pictures for K words like kite, key, kangaroo, and kitten. Let kids color and fold it, then point out where they see the “K” on each page.
