Sight words are essential stepping stones in early reading, and “but” is one of the first connecting words children learn to recognize in simple stories and beginner sentences. These free printable “but” sight word worksheets help young readers practice reading, tracing, writing, and using but through fun, hands-on activities made especially for early learners.
Kids encounter but commonly in phrases like “I like this but not that,” “We went but she stayed,” or “He ran but fell down.” Because but is used to connect ideas, understanding and recognizing it helps kids read more smoothly and comprehend sentence meaning with ease.
As a mom of four (with one currently in 1st grade!), I know how important it is to offer sight word practice that feels simple, enjoyable, and affordable. These worksheets have helped my own early readers build confidence, and I’m excited to share them with teachers, homeschool families, and parents everywhere.
These “But” sight word printables are free to use and easy to print individually from the post.
