Welcome to Week 25. This is your low-prep, print-and-go Letter X plan. Each day includes a quick 5-minute mini lesson, one simple activity, and free printables that support it.

Best for: kindergarten centers, homeschool, preschool review, and busy parents who want a simple plan without a lot of prep.

Daily Mini Lessons + Printables

Day 1: Meet Letter X

Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)

• Point to X and x. Say: “This is letter X. It can look like X or x, but it is the same letter.”
• Say: “Letter X is a little tricky. Sometimes it is at the beginning of a word like xylophone, and sometimes we hear it in words like fox and box.”
• Show 3 picture examples: xylophone, fox, box, six. Ask: “Do you see X? Do you hear X in the word?”

Do This (2 minutes): Cross Your Arms for X. Show picture cards or say simple words aloud and invite students to cross their arms like an X if they hear or see a word with X. Try: xylophone (cross), fox (cross), sun (quiet), box (cross), dog (quiet), six (cross).

Teacher Tip: Keep it short and playful.

Day 2: Write Letter X

Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)

• Say: “Today we are going to write letter X the right way.”
• Uppercase X: “Slant down one way, then slant down the other way.”
• Lowercase x: “Little slant down one way, then slant down the other way.”

Do This (2 minutes): Make an X. Students air-write a big uppercase X, then trace X on the table with their finger while saying: “Slant down, slant across.” Then make the same smaller shape for lowercase x. You can also let students cross their fingers or arms to make an X shape.

Optional: If kids need extra fine motor practice, add a simple trace-and-color X page.

Day 3: Hear and Spot Letter X in Words

Mini Lesson Script (5 minutes)

• Say: “Today we are listening for the X sound and noticing where X shows up in words.”
• Say: “Sometimes X is at the beginning, like xylophone. Sometimes it is at the end, like fox and box.”
• Try a few examples: xylophone (yes), fox (yes), box (yes), six (yes), sun (no), dog (no).

Do This (2 minutes): X Spotting Game. Show picture cards and ask: “What is this? Do you hear X in the word? Is the X at the beginning or the end?” Students can make an X with their arms when they hear a word with X.

Day 4: Centers + Review

By today, students have:

• Met letter X
• Practiced writing X
• Heard and spotted X in words

Today is about strengthening and applying those skills independently.

Mini Lesson (2–3 minutes)

Say:

“This week we learned about the letter X.”
“Tell me the letter name.”
“Show me uppercase X in the air. Show me lowercase x in the air.”
“Can you show me how the lines cross?”
“Can you tell me a word that starts with X?”
“Can you tell me a word that ends with X?”

Pick 2 centers and rotate.

• Point to X: “What letter?”
• Point to x: “What letter?”
• “Can you write X?”
• “Can you name a word with X in it?”

Celebrate: print and read the mini book, then do a simple craft or draw-and-tell.
