Learning sight words doesn’t have to feel repetitive, especially when there’s a dinosaur involved! These free printable “is” sight word worksheets make reading practice fun and hands-on for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and early first graders.
The sight word is might look small, but it’s one of the most common words your child will see in books and stories. Mastering it helps unlock smoother, more confident reading.
As a mom of four (with one right in the middle of 1st grade reading lessons!), I know how much better kids learn when they’re engaged. That’s why I designed these pages to combine sight word mastery with playful, themed learning. This “is” pack features friendly dinosaurs, because who doesn’t love a little prehistoric fun while learning?
These “Is” sight word printables are completely free to download, easy to print, and perfect for classroom use, homeschool lessons, or extra reading support at home.

✏️ What’s Included in the “Is” Sight Word Pack
Each page in this printable bundle helps kids recognize, trace, write, and use the word is in different and memorable ways — with a friendly dinosaur twist!
1. Color by Sight Word
This is a playful spin on color-by-number! Instead of numbers, kids color each section according to the sight word shown. Once complete, the word is appears as a hidden design.
This activity builds word recognition while keeping kids engaged through coloring and focus.

2. Write & Draw Page
Children write a simple sentence using is and then draw a matching picture below.
This open-ended page encourages creativity, sentence formation, and helps connect reading comprehension to illustration.
Perfect for small-group writing practice or quiet time at home.

3. Trace, Write, Read & Color Page (Dinosaur Edition!)
This multi-skill worksheet features an adorable long-neck dinosaur and a fun tracing sentence:
“What is that?”
Kids first trace the sight word is, then trace and read the full sentence. At the bottom, they’ll find a dinosaur outline to trace and color, an easy way to reinforce pencil control and fine-motor coordination while connecting words to visuals.

4. Sight Word Activity Page (Easier Version)
A jam-packed page that touches on every core sight word skill in one place!
Students will:
- Color the word is in block letters
- Circle is from a mix of sight words
- Trace and write is
- Color in the letters I and S in an alphabet grid
- Fill in a missing is in a short sentence
- Color a matching picture
This page is ideal for kindergarten and early first-grade learners who are building fluency.

5. Sight Word Activity Page (Harder Version)
A slightly more advanced worksheet for kids who need a little extra challenge!
Students will:
- Color and trace the word is
- Dot or color all the is words hidden among others
- Write is independently
- Circle the sight word written in different fonts
- Cut and paste the correct words to complete a sentence
This page provides great reinforcement for reading centers, homework, or morning review time.
