Toddler Letters – “K” is for “Kiwi”

Letter K Craft - Toddler/Preshooler letter of the week craft K is for Kiwi with related craft, tracing sheets and fruits/vegetables.

Supplies Needed:

Toddler/Preshooler letter of the week craft K is for Kiwi with related craft, tracing sheets and fruits/vegetables.

  • Colored Craft Paper
  • Letter “K” Cutout
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Toilet Paper Roll
  • Yellow Circle Stickers
  • Small Seeds/Spices (We Used Flax Seed)

Set Up:

I cut out our “K” ahead of time. We stared by smashing a toilet paper roll flat and cutting it into small circle strips, then unflattening it so we had little brown circles. We then glued our brown circles to our “K” and put a circle of glue stick glue inside each circle.  As soon as we had a little bit of glue inside one of the toilet paper roll circles we put down a yellow sticker in the middle of it then did a pinch of seeds on top of it (so that our seeds would stick to the area around the sticker yet inside of the brown circle). We let it dry, then carefully shook our loose seeds into the sink before gluing our K to the craft paper.

We finished by eating a kiwi together and talking about different kinds of seeds and why fruits and vegetables have seeds in them.  This would also have been a great opportunity to plant something and grown it our window, but I didn’t think about that until after the fact.

Letter J Craft - Toddler/Preshooler letter of the week craft J is for Jellyfish with related craft, tracing sheets and fruits/vegetables.

Supplies Needed:

  • Colored Craft Paper
  • Letter “J” Cutout
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Scissors
  • Googly Eyes
  • Ribbon
  • Markers

Set Up:

I cut out our “J” ahead of time, then we sat down at the craft table and I let my son cut little strips off of a whole bunch of random ribbons and colored strings I had.  Once we had a good pile of strings I showed him how to put glue on the “J” (I have a glue stick pictured above, but we ended up using Elmer’s glue) then we glued the strings to our “J”.  Finally when we had enough strings we added some goggly eyes and let our J with its strings dry.  Once our “J” was dry we glued our jellyfish to a sheet of craft paper.
We finished by talking about different kinds of things that live in the water; fish, starfish, jellyfish, crabs, sharks, dolphins etc.

Letter I Craft - Toddler/Preshooler letter of the week craft I is for Ice with related craft, tracing sheets and fruits/vegetables.

Supplies Needed:

  • Blue Craft Paper
  • White Letter “I” Cutout
  • Food Coloring
  • Ice Cube Tray
  • Glue
  • Markers
  • Paper Towels
  • Scissors

Toddler/Preshooler letter of the week craft I is for Ice with related craft, tracing sheets and fruits/vegetables. Set Up:

I started a day ahead of time by filling an ice cube tray with water and few drops of food coloring so that we would have different colors of ice.

I cut out our “I’s” and, with a pencil, I drew little boxes along it so it would look like stacked ice blocks… (though once we started coloring our “I’s” the lines pretty much faded away).  Then I popped out the colored ice cubes and put them in a small dish.  We took out the different colored ice cubes and rubbed them across our paper “I’s”, painting with the dyed ice.

A couple of things to note. I tried to freeze tooth picks in my ice cubes, so we would have something to hold, but didn’t have a lot of luck getting them to stay.  It would have been nice to have something to hold the ice cubes with besides our hands because the ice was cold and the dye was colorful.  We ended up holding the ice cubes with little strips of paper towel to “paint”.

I rubbed my ice really fast along my “I” and I got more of a speckled look, my son took bunch of ice cubes and laid them out over his “I” and he got more of a blended colorful look.

When we were finished we let our I’s dry then glued them to our paper.

While we waited for them to dry we talked about different things that are cold.

Letter H Craft - Toddler/Preshooler letter of the week craft H is for House with related craft, tracing sheets and fruits/vegetables.

Supplies Needed:

  • Brown, Green, and Blue Craft Paper
  • Letter “H” Cutout
  • Small Piece of Paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors or Exacto Knife
  • Markers

Toddler/Preshooler letter of the week craft H is for House with related craft, tracing sheets and fruits/vegetables.

Set Up:

I had our “H” cut out and ready to go along with a strip of green paper cut out to look like grass.  I cut little window-like-holes in the “H”.  The my son glued down our extra strip of paper to the inside of the “H” creating the door.  After that we glued the “H” with attached door to the blue paper.  He glued the grass to the bottom of the “H” and glued the strips of brown to the top of the “H” to form the houses roof.  Then he took his markers and colored in the doors and windows creating peek-a-boo spaces.

We finished by talking about and looking at pictures of the different kinds of places people can live (houses, apartments, tents, igloos etc.)

Toddler/Preshooler letter of the week craft G is for Grass with related craft, tracing sheets and fruits/vegetables.

 

Set Up:

We started this letter by walking outside together and gathering some grass shoots.  Then we went in and I had our “G” cut out and ready to go.  I slathered the “G” with glue.  Then my son and I took turns cutting the very long grass shoots into shorter pieces so they would fit on our “G” and putting them into the glue. He thought cutting the grass with scissors was pretty much the most fun and most funny thing he had ever done. 🙂
We finished up by talking a little bit about plants and different things that grow like grass, trees, and flowers.
